Most people know Hemi as a place to earn yield on Bitcoin. That’s still true, but the bigger aim is the rest of finance: lending, settlement, treasury, and markets. That work has usually happened on chains with weaker guarantees than Bitcoin, and Hemi wants it to run on a network rooted in Bitcoin instead. Hemi is committed to shipping a release every two weeks, on dates anyone can mark, ready to use the same afternoon. It either earns its place or it doesn’t, and everyone can see which. Brent crude reached $105.21 a barrel on Thursday as attacks in the Strait of Hormuz and the ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict kept inflation worries high. Bitcoin climbed back above $82,000 and traded at $82,413 Friday morning, roughly flat on the week, up 4.6% over the month and down 32% from a year ago. Ether had a weaker week, down about 4% over seven days and near $2,480 on Friday. On Friday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported 29,000 jobs added in September against forecasts of 90,000, and unemployment rose to 4.2%. BTC briefly traded above $87,000 as traders pulled back bets on an October rate hike, then gave back the move by midday. ![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/54/c6/54c6f660-26c3-4ce3-8ea1-ea7e37a8cc90/content/images/2026/10/Hemi_SectionTitle_RegulatoryShifts.png) ##### The CFTC writes its first crypto market rulebook On October 5, the CFTC proposed two rules for crypto trading that is leveraged, margined or financed: - **Regulation Crypto Asset Markets (CAM)** creates a new registration category for the venues that offer that trading. - **Regulation Crypto Asset Transactions (CTX)** requires futures commission merchants to sit between customers and those trades, which brings anti-money-laundering rules into it. Comments are open for 60 days. Chairman Mike Selig said developers shouldn’t have to register as introducing brokers “simply because that person shipped code.” Both rules leave spot trading uncovered, a gap that was central to the CLARITY Act, which stalled in the Senate in September. ##### ESMA sets a deadline for non-MiCA stablecoins Last week ESMA recommended this change for the MiCA review. Investigators have traced more than $86 million in losses across Bitcoin, Ethereum and Tron. Ledger halted the reseller’s sales, says its own systems weren’t compromised and has told recent CryptoBilis buyers to move their funds to a new device. A suspected supply-chain attack is under investigation. #### Samsung Wallet brings USDC to more than 82 million Galaxy users Coinbase said USDC will become the default dollar stablecoin in Samsung Wallet for more than 82 million U.S. Galaxy users starting the last week of October, with custody through Coinbase Prime and Bastion. #### Robinhood puts bitcoin on its own balance sheet Robinhood bought $25 million of bitcoin for its corporate treasury. It’s the company’s first bitcoin holding of its own, separate from the roughly 185,000 BTC it holds for customers. #### Securitize brings 12 U.S. stocks onchain as the IMF flags growing pains Securitize launched 12 tokenized U.S. stocks on Solana, each backed one-for-one by a real share and settled in USDC. That makes Securitize the fourth-largest platform in a $3.24 billion market. Updated op-geth and op-node binaries are posted in Discord. Any testnet node that hasn’t updated has fallen behind the network and needs both binaries updated. Mainnet upgrade timing and node releases will be scheduled once Ethereum sets its mainnet activation date. With Glamsterdam live on testnet, the team will start merging changes that were waiting on it, including updates to PoP payouts, into a clean release with Glamsterdam support built in. ### ZK miner closed beta lands this week or early next The ZK proving smart contracts are done, along with a web interface for viewing the contracts and managing your position and stake in the ZK proving marketplace. A closed beta opens to the beta testers channel at the end of this week or early next week. There are two reward pools: - **Daily proving rewards:** paid out in proportion to the number and compute complexity of the proofs you produce. - **Feedback rewards:** a separate pool, likely larger, for bug reports and usability improvements. ### Retroactive rewards now targeted for late October A new rewards contract will handle the retroactive distribution and PoP points conversion. It is now targeted for the third or fourth week of October, depending on audit timelines.
